Tobermory! Sunday Roast! A Coastal Walk! An Exotic Drive!

Day 11, June 7. A leisurely early Sunday morning followed by a Church of Scotland worship service in Tobermory and after the service, at coffee hour, we enjoyed some interesting and informative conversations with friendly parishioners about the history of the Isles of Mull and Iona. One of them grew up just behind the cottage we are renting for the week. We stuffed ourselves on scrumptious Sunday Roasts in a nearby hotel with a lovely view of the harbor at Craignure and the ferry stop for the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Oban.

A coastal walk was next on the agenda and although the scenery was quite beautiful it turned out to be a very boggy one when we tried to detour intending to cut short the walk because we were running late to meet Malcolm and Dolly at a castle and garden. I ended up sloshing along with very wet boots filled with inches of water. Some walkers we met (thankfully) guided us back on track along the headland where we continued to enjoy the views of Duart Castle (the MacLean family castle), a large Celtic cross, and no Malcolm and Dolly at our planned meeting place. They thought we'd gotten lost and went searching for us. In their search they stopped at a pub and Dolly went in and said they were looking for some lost friends. They all stood up. 😋 that was worth a good chuckle when we finally met up. Home to Aros Mains for tea.

After sipping tea a brilliant sun and beautiful blue sky filled with great clouds teased us out to the car for an evening drive. Wow! Wow! wow! The drive up the west coast of Mull was absolutely exotics its stunning stops at Dervaig and Calgary with its famous white sandy beach. For two hours we were oohing and aahing at the incredible scenery. It was so amazing I couldn't even resist taking photos from the car window. More than ready for tea when we arrived back in Salen we found a plate of THE BEST  freshly-baked scone, a welcome gift from kind Maggie, our landlady.
