Day #1 in Our Favorite Isle

Thurs., May 28. After a really smooth flight across the pond on British Air we arrived safely at Heathrow on schedule with the sun shining to welcome us to the fairest of isles. By 8:30 a.m. we were headed south down the M25 to Felpham to our dear English friends Margaret and Alan Heslop, friends since 1985 when we met at St. Olave's Church in York, England where Alan was our priest. We were on a six month sabbatical in York and made St. Olave's our church home that year. Over the years since then we've visited each other in our homes on both sides of the Atlantic. A cherished friendship indeed! This our first day in England we took it easy...relaxing, feasting on their always delicious meals and playing catch up on families, church, some mutual friends and reminiscing happily about good times we've shared these past 30 years. Mid-afternoon we strolled through the town via a park and through lanes midst flowering pink and white chestnut trees, beautiful blue hebe bushes, lilacs, bright yellow laburnum trees and lovely gardens filled with colorful iris, poppies, pansies, bluebells, clematis and many others. We strolled along the seaside promenade breathing in the fresh ocean air, listening to the waves breaking on shore, and delighting on being by the sea on this lovely May day. We enjoyed a relaxing day recovering from our flight and stumbled in to bed at a decent hour to rid our bodies of jet lag as quickly as possible.
